Looking to improve your performance on the golf course this summer? Maximize your efforts by making strength training a staple in your program. Here are some of the top benefits golfers have to gain from consistently hitting the gym with a golf performance specialist!
Improved Ball Speed & Distance
According to TPI (Titleist Performance Institute), the average tour pro has between 110mph-115mph average club head speed. Local Bethesda golf pro, Billy Hoffman, began a consistent strength & conditioning routine in January 2021 with a 113mph average club head speed. Fast forward to 2022, his new club head speed average has climbed to 117mph, with a record high 122mph, adding an estimated 15-30 yards to his drive! For Billy, this upgrade translated into increased ball speed, distance per shot, confidence, and significantly better odds at winning tournaments.
Improved Postural Control and Mobility
The ability to enter and control one’s posture during each swing is a critical factor in golf. Inability to keep torso position in the backswing or rotate enough through the hips in the downswing can be the deciding factor for many aspects of the game. However, when a golfer's range of motion and strength (especially core strength) improves, we can see a direct translation into postural control and mobility on the golf course, ultimately improving overall shot accuracy and consistency.
Significant Injury Prevention and Longevity
Golf exposes the body to many high velocity rotations along with long hilly treks throughout each course. As a sound strength and conditioning program takes effect, golfers should expect to feel better before, during, and after each match. Before training, Pro golfer Billy Hoffman experienced significant pain around his hips immediately following each match. He is now pain free as the strength and range of motion around his hips have drastically improved.
Try Our TPI Assessment
The TPI Assessment at Training Ground in Bethesda, Maryland is the first step to eliminating the physical limitations on your Golf Body. Led by Steve Evans Jr., CSCS and TPI certified specialist, the TPI Assessment will take you through the foundational measurements to assess your physical state in relation to the golf swing. This 16-point, low impact test will help us measure your body-swing connection and guide us to the best path forward. You and your coach will review any restrictions identified in the way your golf body moves within your swing, so that we can accurately prescribe a program that will not only greatly improve your golf body mechanics, but will also massively decrease the risk of injuries associated with your golf game.
